SINGLE-SESSION THERAPY IN SHOREVIEW, MINNESOTA

One session can be enough to move something forward.

Not every problem needs months of therapy. If you have one specific issue and you're ready to work on it, a single 90-minute session can give you clarity, a plan, and a next step.

WHAT IT IS

A focused session built to be useful on its own.

QUESTIONS THAT FIT A SINGLE SESSION

Should I stay in this job, or start looking?

How do we handle one hard decision as a couple?

I can't stop replaying a recent argument. What do I do with it?

I'm stuck on one boundary. How do I hold it?

Single-session therapy treats each session as complete. You pick the one thing that matters most to you right now, and we work on it.

The approach came out of clinical work in the late 1980s, when therapists at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland noticed that the most common number of sessions clients attended was one. When they followed up, many said they'd gotten what they came for.

You can stop after one session or decide to continue. The door stays open either way.

HOW THE SESSION WORKS

Ninety minutes, one focus.

1
Name your one thing

When we meet, I ask what you most want help with and what you'd like to leave with.

2
Work on it together

I stay on your issue, ask direct questions, and offer perspective. For couples, I see both of you.

3
Leave with a plan

We finish with specific next steps and a summary of what you've learned, so you can use it right away.

4
Decide what comes next

Some people stop here. Others book more sessions. Both are fine.

OFTEN A GOOD FIT

When you have one issue you're ready to work on.

A decision you're stuck on

A breakup, a transition, or a recent conflict

One communication problem, for you or for the two of you

A boundary you want to set or hold

Stress about one situation

A one-time check-in if you're already a client of mine

OFTEN NOT ENOUGH

When the work needs more time or more safety.

A crisis or immediate safety concern (call or text 988, or 911)

Ongoing abuse or violence in a relationship

Long-standing, complex trauma, which usually needs stabilization and several sessions, including EMDR

Relational patterns you want to address over time

If we discover in session that you need more, I'll tell you plainly and we'll plan next steps.

Your first 90-minute session can stand on its own.
